The Church’s Enemy

“Look at that heavily tattooed, pierced man!” “I hear that girl over there sleeps around and had an abortion. I can’t believe she had the audacity to come to church.” “That preacher at that church on the other end of town has been divorced. I bet that church is one of those feel-good churches to let a man like that be their pastor.”

By the things I hear out of the mouths of many people in churches, one would think that drug addicts, post-abortive women, divorced preachers, and contemporary worship leaders are the church’s enemy. They are not! Honestly, they shouldn’t be anyone’s enemy! These are people for whom Christ died, yet those who claim to know Jesus have a hatred for those who aren’t like them. They have been taught to dislike sinners when the Lord Jesus was one who purposely and lovingly went after these. He is not here now, so we are the ones who should love them.

Churches often choose to view behaviors as the enemy when it has always been the devil. They spend more time fighting from within and keeping “unwanted” people from Heaven than engaging against a war against the devil and loving people to Jesus.

It’s time to wake up. The only unwelcome person or force in the life of the Christian is the devil. We need to pray and use our God-given weapons while operating in the fruit of the Spirit.

  1. There are so many misconceptions about what church means or should mean. So many people are focused on the wrong thing.

Thanks for always keeping it real.
    Have a great weekend ☺

  2. Amen! I always like to say that those who Jesus chose to make disciples of were actually murderers, thieves, and prostitutes. It was actually the self righteous churchians who sent him to the cross.

  3. A church isn’t in danger of losing its emphasis on repentance just by accepting sinners into its congregation. “I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners.” (Mark 2:17)

  4. Amen and Amen !! I couldn’t agree with you more – it breaks my heart when I see and hear the type of comments you described in this blog.
One of my favorite songs is by Casting Crowns, Jesus Friend of Sinners …
it describes exactly this – God bless you for sharing what God put on your heart and I hope this spark starts a fire for all to see !!

      1. LOVE that song !!! Amen as brothers and sisters in Christ we need to pray for eyes to be opened and for all believers in Christ to see the world through His eyes and love like He loved !! God bless you and thank you for sharing this much needed truth !
It weighs heavy on my heart !

  5. Great words that should be read every day! What does it mean to share the Gospel, the Good News? One broken person telling another broken person where to find wholeness! Blessings on you, my Brother!
