Breaking News: “Shallow Post Gets Tons of Likes”

Buckwheat Bertha began blogging and decided to put tons of time and research into her blogs posts. They were rather lengthy. She would like the posts of others, but maybe a handful of people would like what she was writing. She decided to change her game plan, and the likes started flooding in. Here is what she started posting:

  • Quotes from fortune cookies
  • What she ate for dinner
  • Selfies that kept few secrets
  • Memes
  • Anything short to draw attention

I’m sure that you realize this is fictitious. The truth is that different writers have different styles. If memes are your thing, do it well. It quoting fortune cookies is your thing, do it well. Bottom line: be true to how God designed you. Anyone can be an imitator. Be an individual!

      1. So true. See I am still a volunteer host for http://www.live.life.church. When I first started with Life Church I would host many experiences per week, I was also an online life group leader for a little while. God called me to all of that. I grew, I learned, error, and success. I became humble, I learned it is not me, it is God using me. I see so many lives changed since I started there. Now, God pulled me back from all of that. I asked Him what now? He put on my mind my blog. I started with Wix, trying to do it all on my own. I got an FB like page going. I have only been doing this a month now. My FB like page has 37 people who follow me. I do not know the Bible well, I am not a writer. I use Hemingway.app and Grammarly to edit my posts. Still, I find errors. I use Bing search engine to find scripture and things to study on the subjects God put on my heart.
Now I have a couple of friends used to be in my life group. We quit talking for about a year but stayed connected on FB. I ran across my friends FB podcast page. Did not even realize it was hers. Asked her to share one of my posts. We have been talking ever since. They are building my website here. It is not finished, but my posts are accessible. I am just waiting for them to finish coding and designing my page for me. Maybe the middle of this coming week it should be done. It is all a labor for the Lord.

      2. Check out free resources for anyone from Life.church https://open.life.church/. I am sure if you reach out to them they would be willing to answer and/or help in any way possible. Life Church started in a 2 car garage and now is the biggest mega church in America. But thing is, Life Church is not about being mega, it has a small church mindset. Life Church has a fb life group page, and from there people connect and make smaller groups to connect and grow. My FB Page has many life Church attendees. When you do go online more, always remember the small group concept, connections, reaching out. Life Church Online staff do FB Live every Tues. and really pay attention to the comments, attendees. That connection is so important to have because we need each other to be accountable, support, love, and share Jesus love with each other.

      3. You are welcome. If you have any questions I can see if I can find a way to get them answered. I am in Oregon, they are in Oklahoma but still I have talked to church staff a few times. They use Zoom.us to meet with volunteers around the globe. I have a professional zoom account as a result of my involvement with them. It is a great way to meet in a life group setting with people around the world. One life group I am in has a member in Africa, one in the UK, one in Canada we meet and live life together even though we are around the world.

  1. So very true. We are all given different gifts and have different callings, yet are all one. John 21:20 Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple whom Jesus loved following, who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?” 21 Peter, seeing him, said to Jesus, “But Lord, what about this man?”

22 Jesus said to him, “If I will that he remain till I come, what is that to you? You follow Me.”

  2. Good stuff Matt

Yep its so easy to get distracted when blogging. Should I blog 50 times a day, how many likes can I get, pressure here and there but mostly from ourselves.

Amen to being true to how God wired you, we should be seeking his counsel when it comes to this stuff I reckon.

  3. Amen, powerful truth!! I do like shorter posts sometimes throughout the week because people relate to quotes and scriptures. But you’re right. Whatever we do we must do with the right intentions, not selfish ones.
