Yesterday, I wrote about people-watching. Today, I was prompted to write about listening to people. I sat in a patient’s home a little while ago and just listened to this individual reflect upon life and lessons learned. I wasn’t sitting there formulating a response. I sat, listened, and learned.
The book of James commands us to be “swift to hear and slow to speak”. Warren Wiersbe stated in his commentary on James that God gave us two ears and one mouth. We should listen more than we speak.
I know that the temptation is to defend yourself or be heard. Fight it. Your silent presence might be what someone needs.
